Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. This position serves as the primary support person for the VP and dean, and performs a variety of administrative and office duties for the Student Affairs office.
Duties include serving as a primary contact for the Student Affairs office, including foot traffic, phone calls, and general e-mails; supervising office student employees; scheduling appointments; producing and coordinating office communications; managing student e-mail lists, certain student electronic data, and office budget records; assisting with the organization and implementation of new student orientation, all student check-ins, and special events; overseeing the student health insurance process; updating office web pages, the VP’s/DOS’ social media accounts, and the undergraduate student handbook; and keeping meeting notes and minutes.
The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent; minimum of three years of related experience; proficiencies with Microsoft Office and multifunction devices; excellent customer service, interpersonal, communication, organizational, time management, multitasking, detail, and accuracy skills; and skills to use and manage professional social media platforms. Must also have abilities to work in a fast-paced environment with constant interruptions; self-motivate and work independently, without supervision at times, and successfully with office members; prioritize multiple responsibilities, resolve problems, and adjust to change; demonstrate mature judgment, tact, discretion, and diplomacy; and maintain discretion with confidential and sensitive information. Candidates must have a deep understanding of and commitment to working in and fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. Applicants must also be able to occasionally work outside normal office hours, particularly during special events. Preferred candidates will have two years of college; previous experience in an administrative support role in higher education, working in or managing a professional office setting, and with business communications; experience with databases and Ellucian Banner; knowledge of and experience with Hollins; and ability to drive university vehicles. Final candidates with a United States driver’s license will be subject to a motor vehicle background check.
